You have basically proven my point.  I stated that the PSP and DS both have their own market (i.e. demographics), and that you have to heavily qualify a "beats" statement in order to make it even remotely true.

I can see by your profile (which I guess you keep pretty up-to-date ;)) that you do not own a PSP.

I play with a DS, but I choose not to own one.  I own, not one, but two PSPs (a 2000 and a Go) instead.

I could afford a DS if I wanted one.. quite easily.  But that's just it -- the multitude games on it are largely garbage in my eyes.  Only a couple of the RPGs you mentioned are even worth considering in my book, as real titles.  As I see it, the PSP wiped the floor with the DS this year, and I'm just as glad I own a PSP now, than I ever was.

You, on the other hand, own a DS.  You listed off a huge number of games there -- presumably you've played them all, and (despite some ugly ratings for some of them.. sorry, its true), you find them to be markedly superior to their PSP genre-counterparts.  You think the DS "beat" the PSP this year, and for you, it did.

Sounds like its just as I said.  PSP owners will say the PSP had a better lineup.  DS owners will say the DS had a better lineup.  Multiconsole owners will usually prefer one console to the other(s), and they'll say their favorite had the best lineup.  Of course.  People purchased these consoles, knowing what they were beforehand -- the PSP and DS are much like the PS3 and Wii, they just don't cater an even remotely as-similar crowd.  I would say that approximately 68.3% of the people you ask this question to will say the "DS won" and 31.7% will say the "PSP won".  Trying to figure out if one side, or the other "jumped ship" because of releases this year is an interesting question, but I doubt this VGChartz thread will answer it. =)

Regarding demographics, are you speaking of my final lines about sports games and racers? If we're going back to RPGs then I don't get the point of bringing it up. The same genres will breed the same demographics that want to play them. Neither console seems to be able to sell RPGs more remarkably well than the other, so it's easy to assume they have the same demographics purchasing RPGs.

Regarding the ratings of the RPGs, they're ugly on both sides. I put every original RPG I could find that released this year on that list for both platforms, no exceptions.

I don't get your fascination with proving you play a DS, pointing out that I don't own a PSP, and questioning whether I've played every game in my lists. Is there a point to it? I never gave a personal opinion on each platform's RPG list, I just said the DS can easily counter the PSP's. I don't have much of a personal stake in the matter, since RPGs aren't really my thing in the first place. If you must know about my buying habits, I owned a PSP 2000 until early this year, when I sold it along with about 15 games towards the purchase of a PS3. I still don't get what that has to do with anything, but there you go.

I'm getting to the point where I don't know why you originally quoted me in my reply to leo-j the first place and put these multitude of arguments in my face like they all have something to do with me. They really don't.

This quote, direct from you a few pages back, is what prompted me to jump in and defend the PSP's lineup, which I feel is very good:

Onyxmeth: "Not a single one of those games on either of your lists are in your gaming collection. Are you sure YOU'VE played them?"

You made an entire post out of that question, complete with huge quotation I made an entire post out of my own question? With quotations? Quotations around what? Where is this post? , as if you could actually "question" the worth of these games by attempting to derail someone's argument based on whether ot not they've spent the time to update their profile. That wasn't even reoltely the intention. You're reading way too much into a single sentence. You're a moderator.  You, of all people, should realize that updating ones profile is a painful business when you have a lot of games (I sure know it) That's actually not a part of what being a moderator is about. I don't need to understand about updating ones' gaming collection anymore than anyone else here., and frankly, this post of yours, as a contribution to this thread, was meaningless and frankly, kind of insulting to anyone who hasn't wasted their time by completing their profile.

So I decided to step in.  Because the games he mentioned are very good. Excellent even, and if you look, and you don't need to look too hard, you'll see that reflected in their review scores -- especially relative to many of the DS games you brought up in subsequent followups. On the contrary the reviews favor the DS games. It doesn't matter to me, but your argument seems to hinge on something you're wrong about.

I want you to justify your, in my opinion, outrageous post before its included in the discussion.  Confirm for me that an up-to-date profile is necessary for contribution to the discussion It's not. It was just relevant because leo accused darth of not playing PSP games, so I accused him of not playing them. You're reading too much into the less important sentence about his profile. I just wanted to know whether he played the games at all. ... or is posting such a question, instead, trolling? I don't think so, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Every one of my posts has been relative to the discussion, including this one, since I am interested in the discussion, and not in unreasonable nitpicking.  I don't appreciate the trolling, as a user of this board -- particularly not from a moderator, who should know better.

So I say that to leo, because he called darth out on not playing the PSP games and being a hater, to show him it works both ways. He then confirms he hasn't played them, and that to you was trolling? It's trolling because I asked leo if he had played any of the games on the list because they aren't in his collection for me to confirm? That's a question sir, and one that leo was more than willing to answer. In fact I was a post past that talking to leo already, so why jump on the comment at all?

In fact, you didn't even address it in your original post to me. You just went on and on about things I never talked about to leo, and never once said anything about the comment at all. Me asking leo if he's played the games he's listing because he's accusing darth of not playing them is not me trashing the PSP library.

At this point, we're gotten far off-topic and I don't want it to continue, so unless you have something new and relative to say, since I have now explained my comment to you, go ahead, otherwise let's just leave it alone and go on in the thread our seperate ways.
