No point of making speculative date announcements--time will tell--but nowhere did they say that it was even going to be delayed from the late 2008 date. For all we know, they may simply pour more human & monetary resources into it to speed up development.

First off throwing more resources at a problem does not necessarily speed development ...

Secondly, why would you bother to rush the project? Do they need to release a product for the "Massive" PS3 userbase? Are they going to be willing to divert resources from their Wii projects to ensure that Final Fantasy XIII is released on time when they're already too far behind on Wii projects?
