Hard to say when it comes to me. Being a pessimist.

Mario Kart Wii both underperformed and overpreformed.

I heard "Mario Kart Wii" awesome!"

But then i heard they changed battlemode... which i thought would suck... and it's my favorite mode by far...

But then i played it... and it's fun. Just as fun as any of the other Mario Karts.

Fallout 3... didn't live up to the first two Fallout games... but I never expected it to.

I completely agree.  In nearly all ways, Mario Kart Wii outdid its predecessors in all ways...technically.  It did have the most content, the most options and the most additions.  And really did feel like Mario Kart 64 'plus'.  However...it had a number of things that just made the gameplay seem less fun.  From level design that wasn't as good as the previous games (namely 64 and DS) to forcing the whole game to be so dependant on 'tricks' that many races, even one mistake would push you from 1st place to 12th.  And in a game focused around hitting your teammates with items (or even more annoying, the computer using items), perfection is not an option.

Plus, I didn't really like any of the extra levels they picked and to unlock the best karts/bikes, you had to do some really ridiculous (and otherwise extra) stuff....

Mario Kart Wii just feels like one of those games that you want to say is one of the best on the Wii, but you can't because so many things annoy you once you get deeper into the gameplay.
