I had the same problem and ended up getting the PS3 version. They play very differently though... there's some bugs on the PS3 version that I don't think are in the PC version. They are very minor and since I haven't played the PC I can't say for sure if they're fixed. But the targeting system in the PS3 requires you to select a target using the d-pad. If you're in a long room it's hard to target some of the people at the far end... which is important because they're usually the mages. Also another bug is every once in a while if I try to pause the game by opening the wheel it get's stuck and becomes reversed. So when I try to pause the options open up and the action continues and when I close it the action pauses with no option wheel....
Also... in my opinion if you like to run around with a big sword and kill stuff the console version is good. I have a feeling playing caster classes is better on the PC version, especially on harder difficulties with friendly fire.
That being said I think this game is amazing!!!!! There is a lot to do in it. I already feel that I've missed a lot... and it does seem like there's a LOT of depth between classes. I haven't touched rogues or traps etc in my current playthrough. I'm saving that for my second time through.
