| Scoobes said: Depends. I think a lot of people are such huge fans of the series and the genre they don't want to consider Western influences "infecting" their pure JRPGs. I wouldn't mind if Square-Enix gave a Western dev the chance to experiment with a spin-off Final Fantasy to see if they could bring any new ideas to the table whilst still retaining the core of what makes Final Fantasy great. Giving the actual numbered iteration to a Western dev would be far too risky and could alienate Japanese fans. To be honest I feel like JRPGs need a bit more innovation as all the games seem to play more or less the same with similar story. That's actually why I usually enjoy each Final Fantasy as they usually try to bring something new to the table (although not always for the better in the case of FFXII). |
Well frankly, I don't know what everyone is even talking about. If people want to play a 'western' style JRPG, SquareEnix already makes one. Its called Dragon Quest. And the series has been focusing on exploration, character interaction, item collection and a Wizardry style battle engine (all Western RPG staples) for over 20 years.
