Lost Odyssey definitely needs hype. Heavenly Sword had gotten more hype than it and was announced around the same time and we see what that did. Games generally don't sell themselves.
I'll be surprised if LO does remarkably better than Blue Dragon, since that was clearly riding the Dragon Quest train which is actually more popular in Japan than Final Fantasy.
