What do you mean by best?
If you mean my personal favorite, it was Smash Bros Melee. Since nearly everyone was excited for it and then we all went home and started playing the heck out of it for weeks and talking about how amazing it was. I haven't seen a 'community' do that for a game since, even stuff like Pokemon or Final Fantasy. Seems every time a game comes out, there's just the side who sits at home quietly playing it and enjoying it, then the people coming online complaining about it.
Other notable launches I could mention are the launches for Mario 3 and Dragon Quest III on the NES. Because they kind of set the standard for 'epic launches' in the future.
