It has been known for a long time that 1 million pirated copies does not equal 1 million loss in sales. Also PC gamer who have jobs are less likely to pirate games than those who doesn't. Americans pirate less than countries like China.
The whole reason piracy is making such of a huge fuss now is with the internet you can count the numbers of downloads as well the high cost of games. When it comes to the cost of developing games you still have to rely on those gamers who are willing to pay full price.
So while there are always those who will pirate games yet there are more people buying games more than ever. Just look at the MW2 first day sales , that's higher than most games totals.
