Or Koichi Sugiyama.  Or Yoko Shimomura.  Or Koji Kondo.  Or Kenji Yamamoto.  Or Jun Ishikawa.

Seriously, Uematsu is the John Williams of gaming music.  He's good and FAR more famous than most, but not the best.  I would definitely put Koichi Sugiyama above him and, if Yasunori Mitsuda had a larger body of work, him too.
