For someone solely focused on fitness, he doesn't look very healthy. And judging by the house in the pics, and the fact that his mother was giving him advice on how to help with an acid trip, I'd say he is also poor, and not highly educated.
These conditions can easily shift someone from a recreational drug user at 17, to someone who can really fuck their life up, just like everyone else in their family/street/neighbourhood.
