I know we love to split hairs and hold companies feet to the fire on things they've done wrong, but you can't just say MS is terrible without looking at what they have done right. Would the PSN be where it is if XBOX Live wasn't there first?
==> you want online, you can play it on PC IMO ...
Would Sony have released that delicious PS3 Slim redisign (it's pretty) without pressure from the 360 selling so well?
==> who cares ... people complained a lot about the design too
Would Nintendo have come up with the Wii if their only competition was the PS3?
==> sure, they basically didnt care about anyone. Ninty was doing their job on their side as always, perhaps noting the success of some party games on PS2
(We can discuss whether the Wii is a good thing or not some other time, I think that it has opened the minds of the industry and will push things forward, even though I don't care for a lot of Wii software right now). Simply by coming into the market, basically replacing Sega as a hardware manufacturer, MS has helped to move the gaming industry forward. For that they deserve some respect. Evil or not (and they are evil), it should be hard to not respect anything about them.
That I agree, just the fact that they are here add more competition to the business but, personnaly, I dont care about Halo AND all the potential flagships GoW1/2/MW2/ME/Fable/Bioshock could have been released without MS on the market ...

even if I must say, the thread is not really about console history, but mostly about OS history.

The one argument here that really gets my goat is "I don't care about Halo" as if that will somehow render Halo irrelevant. 10 million other people disagree. It is relevant.

I would like to say that I am sorry for derailing the thread, it is about OS after all. In that regards, Windows 7 is straight up awesome! It really is, and if it steals from Apple, well, good job Apple!
