because sending messages is so much easier than getting and invite that clearly states someone wants to play X game with you and you slip the disc in and takes you to the game... that's not even taking in the fact that the community is more robust and that the system was built around the service instead of tacking it on months before the system launched... when Microsoft intergrates something into Live it works on all games regardless of their release date... they don't have to be patched to use it or coded to make use of it... people don't seem to want to look past the bullet points
