@S.T.A.G.E

Do you miss the old times like everyone or do you just want to have limited functionality back. Would you like a PS3 or Xbox360 more if there were no Internet no DVD/Bluray ?

@Chrizum

No thats optional except the Installations which are not neccessary on every game but you dont have to download content you dont have to install patches. Thats all stuff you are used too but its not necessary you dont even need an Firmware Update for your PS3 IF you dont want to use the PSN which is just another thing which is not necessary.

And the Xbox360 doesnt even have a need for installation.

Nobody forces you to use even one of the things

Most of the people forget that patches are a good thing because with expanded complexity there is an expanded chance for minor bugs. If there was a bug in a SNES game it stayed forever. Downloadable Content is a Plus which I appreciate in the old times I always thought oh damn i love that game but I know everything of it. It would be so cool to have some new Levels or Secrets.

The truth is that almost everything which they introduced in this Gen is a step forward its good to have. I like the whole functionality of this Gen really its fun and it makes Gaming better.

Ofcourse in the past there were simply incredible games. I play today my SNES from time to time and its fun. But I wished that there was for example a Online Multiplayer Coop for Secret of Mana or some new DLC for my Favorit games.

And the other stuff like Bluray is a huge advantage because it saves me money and its good to have. 15 years ago I never would have thought about Online Movie Streams. Such a thing was just beyond my imagination today its standard but those features are cool and would be cool in the past. I Love Nes/Snes Generation totally its still emotionaly the most intense gen for me.

But with all the possibilitys of today Snes/Nes Gaming would be even better.
That a lot of games are not as intense today is not a fault of the added functionality of consoles.

Today you have high expectations and people tend to forget that the possibilitys of today are a bless and not something bad. And I guess nobody on this planet plays a console like he would play it 15-20 years ago. Skiping patches not watching movies and not using the Internetfunctionality or other new stuff. Ofcourse no Hard Disk using etc.

If less functionality is so cool why nobody use a PS3 like a NES.
It would be as quick and easy as PS1 playing. Install times are probably the only thing which you sometimes have to go through (on PS3) but it will be compensated because of less loading time. Most people forget how long the PS1 was sometimes loading with its Double Speed CD-Rom.
