Actually the full story order goes:
MGS3, MG: Portable Ops, MG, MG2:Solid Snake, MGS (MGS:The Twin Snakes), MGS:Mobile, MGS2:Sons of Liberty/Substance, MGS4:Guns of the Patriots.
I found the above in a post on the internet. Anyway Wikipedia should have a full story and explained in detail in regards to the Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid story. 3 million hits on "Metal Gear Solid story" on Google.
I have only played MGS 4: Guns of the Patriot. Great game but the story was very confusing for me considering I have never played any of the previous Metal Gear or Metal Gear Solid games.
