Depends. I ejoyed the singleplayer for the most part, one intense event after the next. The story however had it's ups and downs. I liked the whole finale and the way they ended the first game with a feeling of closure, but here they reopen everything and I had trouble following things early on and you'll see how the ending is geared to start the next Modern Warfare game. I also apparently didn't get the trophy for getting through the first level, lol (training and the town I believe).
One thing I would have liked was to see more of the start of the Russian invasion. You see the loading cut-scene where they're like "holy crap, an invasion" and then bam you're fighting. I guess what I'm getting at is more of the discovery and panic of the onset of the Rusians attacking rather than being thrust X amount of time after it's already started. Still, the whole Russian invasion was intense and I really liked playing through it (especially the EMP part!)
When it comes to the multiplayer, I just finished a bunch of rounds and I can't say I care that much for it. I'd prefer to be playing this on my PC with how fast paced it is and how quickly you'll die, but the whole IWnet crap means this couple day PS3 rental will be all I'll care to play unless I ever restart gamefly in the future. While it's been over a year since I last played Modern Warfare's online (gamefly rental of the PS3 version), I still feel tired of it and Modern Warfare 2's more of the same feel just isn't interesting me right now. Thus, I have to say that I'd rather be playing some other game like Killzone 2's online to be honest.
I can't say I'm on the side of matchmaking either. In the rounds I've played today, there has been lag which has made things very choppy as well as a few host migrations which will make things unplayable for a quite a while. Further adding to this, the host migration failed (or lost connection or something) in my last match and the game ended with all the players sent back to the lobby. I was also in a full ground war lobby and the countdown to start the match was at 5 seconds, but two people left and the countdown was halted to search for more players. This felt like such a waste because the matchmaking doesn't have a problem with connecting me to matches that are already in progress so why should the countdown stop because two out of eighteen people decided to disconnect? Heck, the matchmaking is brilliant enough to connect me to a match that ends right as I'm selecting my class before my first spawn! Maybe it's just not my luck? Either way, it keeps me siding with dedicated servers and against Infinity Ward's decisions for the PC version.
But hey,
