Remember, it's not about units sold. It's about profit made. M$ can lower the price of the 360 to $99 and sell tons and tons of units, but it doesn't mean anything if that's going to lower their revenue. How many consoles sold is just a number that gives fans something to argue about, it tells you very little about the health of the company. Case and point look at Microsoft vs Apple. Microsoft may have a 90% share of the computer market, but Apple's profit ratio is exponentially better. Hence Apple's stock price = 8x of Microsoft's stock price. Winning the console war is meaningless for the company execs and shareholders if they don't win the revenue war also.
