I think it's actually the best case for GT5 to sell over 1 million in Japan.

Agreed.  Minna no Golf 5 sales are telling, most Japanese sequels on PS3 underselling what they were on PS3 by 10-50%.  The only exceptions are DMC3/4 and Biohazard 4/5 (which was a year late port on PS2).

 

edit: The only real region I can see where GT5 sales have a chance of holding to last gen figures is probably Europe.  And granted, while it's GT's strongest region, the tumble it's going to take in America and Japan will be what's pulling it south of 10 million worldwide.
