Well, people forget many the marketing factor. In the end this will be what determinate the game first month, legs will be determinate by quality converting in word of mouth. FFXIII WILL have a huge marketing campaign. S-E CEO stated that they will be sure that EVERYONE will know about this game(little exaggeration), MS stated that they will make consumers think
Final Fantasy XIII = Xbox 360 in America
Sony have it as one of the biggest games to release next year, and there's a chance of exclusive bundling for ps3 in america like MW2 did with 360(talk about favoritism of Activision).
I DO expect marketing in the same levels of GTA 4/Halo 3/FFVII, since this game have the "mission" of regenerate FF series that are decaying in sales and quality every new release, and regenerate JRPG genre like whole, since sales for that genre are dying in West. Resuming, this game is promised to have the same impact of FF VII, FFVII reincarnation.
