BUT none of those are moving hardware.....

And? whats currently moving sony hardware? oh, thats right, a slim version of the ps3 that was not intended to be launched at this time.

Sony used to launch slim versions of their consoles when either they wanted an extra hardware boost or the console was on its last legs or approaching that stage, they launched the ps3 slim early cos sales were simply not up to scratch., they launched ps2 slim to capitalise on their already strong sales position.

Both companies no doubt still have a few tricks up their sleeves this gen, but sony made the most recent move, writing off the 360 at this stage considering how well it has done thus far is clearly not advisable.

Ps3 slim launch this gen was not a luxury like it was with the ps2 slim, it was a necessity.

This. PS3 SLim maybe selling well, but I would wager a huge bet that it sells alot to already PS3 Phat existing owners. Not new users. When PS2 Slim launched me and my friends all bought it to replace our Phat PS2's. I think the numbers are quite flattering right now. And to be honest it's showing in the software sales of big exclusives. Sony has yet to have any exclusive that has pedigree beat the non pedigree new IP Gears Of War. Not even MGS4 has beat it.

If anything Sony have made the biggest desperate moves this gen. dropping the price in the first year by $200. Then releasing a Slim within 3 years?

just like a huge part of the 360 sales from last year were from RROD victums, thats why the 360 is down yoy?
