In NA sales, SF4 sold more on 360 (0.81m vs 0.76m), RE5 sold more on 360 (1.45m vs 0.99m) and DMC4 sold more on 360 (0.75m vs 0.51m). There may be more Japanese multiplats that I'm overlooking that fit this pattern but I really don't feel like searching. lol. And yet the PS fanboys had the audacity to rage when DMC4 went multi-plat, saying that the fanbase was all on PS. lol. Also keep in mind that the best selling hd jrpg this gen to date is a Xbox 360 exclusive (Lost Odyssey).
With the $299 PS3 slim momentum, even if it may slow down by spring, I think FF13 will sell more on PS3 BUT the sales for the 360 version are going to be bigger than people would assume. I don't think the gap will be large in North America. Final Fantasy 13 doesn't have the control issue like Tekken 6 and Blazblue (most fighting game fans prefer Dualshock D-Pads to 360 Analogs. Do you really need a Dualshock D-Pad to navigate menus in FF13? No. Navigating menus in Lost Odyssey wasn`t a problem at all.) and it is probably one of the more MAINSTREAM'D Japanese games out there on the PS360. Out of all the Japanese games on the 360, this would be one of the more appealing ones to the mainstream 360 gamer. FF13 will sell well on the 360.
To automatically think, "360 fans don't buy jrpgs and Japanese games, they only like shooters. lulz" is absurd and even though the figures consistently debunk this myth, you can't stop hearing this myth being told over and over again. The Xbox 360 just can't get the respect it deserves from Japanocentric fanboys who have this idea that "Japan = superior, American console = inferior". They came a long way when it comes to the Japanese software front but they aren't going to get respect from those who feel that saying favorable things about an American console loses them e-cred in their e-social circle. |
hmm ur probably right on it selling on 360. But it is guarnteed to sell much more on PS3. Think about it the vast majority of ppl who bought a PS3 earlier on was for FFXIII. Ppl bought a 360 for halo and gears and to them FFXIII is more of a bonus to them and not something they were expecting. I have both systems and its pretty obvious that ill be buying it for PS3

Anyone that buys a console for a game before the game even has a release date is crazy. It`s one thing if they wanted to play the PS3 games of the time right then and there. But if all they really wanted was FF13, they are crazy. Never buy a console for just upcoming games. I have zero sympathy for those who bought a PS3 for FF13, DMC4, Tekken 6, etc. before the multiplat announcement. If you are motivated to get a console solely for upcoming games, preorder the games and buy the console when you get the games. It`s much cheaper that way.
Also FF13 like I said is a big tent mainstream jrpg. It`s not a game for only jrpg hobbyists. Those who are really obsessed with FF13 are not mainstream. So it`s doubtful that this I must get a PS3 for FF13 contingent is large. Vocal on the internet sure but if you go by what people hype on the internet, you`d think that Persona 3 and 4 and Demon`s Souls were multi-million selling games. It`s common knowledge that internet game forums are totally not representative of the mainstream gamer.
