Who exactly are outraged by this? The gamers, or the mass media? If it's the first then well... first time I see Gamers outraged by killing innocents (aside from GTA, anyone remember the option to blowing up that cruiseship in Splinter Cell Double Agent? You were actually working for terrorists 50% of the time.)
If its the second, well, then it's same old-same old. I stopped caring about the mass media coverage of games (especially by sensationalists) about the time games were connected to school-shootings.
Secretly I hoped that at some point we got to this point. I've always found it a shame that Call of Duty never let us play from a wehrmacht-perspective. As I see it, CoD glorifies war and fighting from a single persons perspective, how a soldier sees it without being to concerned for the war or "Why we fight". We just do. What is wrong with playing the enemy? We have been shooting Americans and British, at least in multiplayer since the days of Medal of Honour and BF1942.
Plus, it seems to forego the heroïsm soldiers on both sides show. Here in Holland we actually have a statue for a wehrmacht soldier who saved two childeren from a burning barn when it was bombed by allies. I can imagine some Al-Quada soldier in Afghanistan doing the same.
Mind you, I don't glorify the idea of killing innocents the way terrorists do now in real life or the Germans went about the holocaust but in games, give us both sides just like a movie can do.
