With Sony, the main thing is that the PS4 will probably be based on PS3 tech in order to cut down on R&D costs and get close to breaking even on each unit from launch.
The one thing I see on these boards is that people don't interpret the business as a whole. Everyone always assumes all the losses for SCE is just losses on hardware. There are also other things like Sony expanding their first party and marketing. We've seen how much Sony has expanded their first party in the last 2 years and recently have put their marketing muscle in full force.
