Well I'm very happy what sony is doing recently.
the games are great and varied and there's still lot of potentially awesome games coming.
the online has been and will allways be free which I like, no amount of extra service will make me pay for playing a game online with my friends.
My ps3 has never had any problems with the firmware updates, in reliability it's propably the best console I have ever owned...and it has a small failrate overall. What I've read from the news usually it's the 60gb model with backwards compatibility that fails.
You're worrying too much and you CAN play psone classics on it just not the ps2-games.
