Well, you've just simply decided that these latest guys who had a system brick after an update are for real. You have no proof of anything (niether do they btw), and Sony themselves have said that it was a coincidence that it happened after an update.
That story is simply a couple of guys who have heard about FW issues in the past (which were all fixed by Sony), and decided that it had also happened to them even though Sony told them it didn't.

The reason I ask if "this is a troll", is because at least to me, this is old news being spread around mostly by forum goers. This is bad word of mouth. Additionally, it is free to do this. Maybe you really are just new to the forum scene but from my experience, there are a lot of "employees" on the net's forumz. These employees go around advocating buying one system over another and usually do it through FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt).

For example, the stories of RROD. Some people claim 13 of them or more. Usually the never say something like "that's why I recommend a competitor's console", like you did. But they do.

The point is that it's just very hard believing someone who is ready to believe a couple guys on the internet, rather than intuition, common sense, or the company's official statement.

I don't completely disagree, it's hard to sift through all the misinformation, and I can only go by what I hear. If 50 people say one thing, and another 50 say the opposite, how do I determine for myself which is true/right? So someone said I was going by what I feel, so that's probably correct.

But I also show doubt. "Whether this is actually the case or not, its still pretty bad PR to release an update, and whether it causes problems or not, make it known that customers will have to pay up to $150 for repairs. I don't really believe in coincidences."

Perception is just as important as reality in making judgements.
