The typical gen lifespan is about 4 - 5 years. PS3 has the 10 year plan and MS said the 360 isn't halfway done.
We can presume some if not many Wii owners will eventually buy a HD console. Especially considering the limitations and lack of strong 3rd party support for the Wii.
