If you really like her, go for it - the worst she can say is no.
There was one time I thought I got a hint from a friend, but I misread the situation. There was a little awkwardness for a while, but we got over that and we were quickly back to out normal relationship. So, even if she says no, you could still have your normal relationship. Hope that helps.
