This article is rather sensationalist and misleading.
The game is still selling over 10k a week in North America, in will pass up Final Fantasy Tactics' sales in only two weeks. It'll probably top 500k lifetime in NA, with its European sales nearing 250k. That's 750k, not much less than the game's Japanese total, 910k. I'm sure Square Enix expected this game to perform better in Japan than in the West, so I doubt these sales are much (if at all) lower than they're initial expectations.
