So now that we're a month into the season here's a few things of what I've seen in general, expected and unexpected.
Expected
Pittsburgh being on top of the Eastern Conference. Let's see how long they can keep this lead especially with NY and Washington right behind them.
Washington running away with the Southeast division...again.
San Jose staying close to the top of the Western conference.
Chicago living up to the hype and being on top of the central division. Although I do think they might be overhyped, who knows.
Unexpected
Colorado taking us all by surprise and sitting on top of the entire league. These guys have a really good lineup. Their goalie is playing out of his mind, but that might be their achilles heel as well. If he goes on a cold streak or gets injured they might be in a bit of trouble.
Detroit struggling in the standings. It's early though and they're Detroit so no one should even think of counting them out at all.
LA/Phoenix/Anaheim for swapping spots in the Pacific division. LA and Pho are showing their muscles here while the Ducks are struggling. I thought they'd be second or third in the division, not last.
Toronto being at the bottom. Ok while not a Leafs fan I'm rooting pretty hard for them to get some sort of win streak going. Wasn't expecting them to be this low at all. Hopefully they actually start playing some defense and don't leave it to their rookie goalie to win games for them.
On a side note I don't want to jinx anything but it's looking like Ovechkin is on track to score 50 in 50 (maybe even in less). It'd be pretty sweet if he does it, not sure what anyone else thinks of this.
