An average of 15k a week for months... is a lot of money. Especially when it was full-priced the whole time, and typical royalty rate on DDL for a title like that is 70% ( ie: IW probably got about 70% of every 50$ sale on steam, whereas they probably get about 35-45% on console once you account for retail markup PLUS platform royalty to MS/Sony which is no less than 10$/copy).
Now, at least according to Activision CoD4 PC sales stands at 15% of total sales. However PC units make considerably more profit per sale, so PC revenue might have been as high as 25%. Still the minority, sure. But still enough money to chase.
Like I have said previously, its not that PC is small.. its just console major franchise are so huge.
CoD4 sold enough on PC to make plenty of money and it would have been considered something of a success story were it not for the fact that it is one of the top console franchises in popularity. I mean seriously, its a game made for consoles now, PC got a straight port that wasnt even rebalanced..... CoD4 is like what, 2nd or third best selling xbox game? People need to stop making a case for a failing PC because a ported console game wasnt as successfull on PC as it was on console when it happens to be one of THE top console franches. Its just silly.
If CoD4 truly was a time waster on PC for IW, MW2 for PC would have either been dropped... or just left as CoD4 was... IW truly had the thought they could get even more sales by making shit more like the consoles, because there aren't any PC gamers who know the PC demographic making decisions over there anymore.
( and for the people who keep claiming PC is failing because of piracy at random points in the thread, please just stop... there have been people saying that for 25 years now, seriosly, it has never been true, still isnt true, assertations that its true have been pretty much debunked... just give the piracy horse a rest)
