You highlighted this part of my message you didn't seem to agree with:
Of course the rendering resolution counts significantly as well.
Anyway higher resolutions increase possible details (and makes jaggies less noticeable), just reducing jaggies does not add details, this reduces contrast between neighbouring pixels, making the graphics look smoother.
