How big budget is DQX? Those sell alot, but they don't seem so big budget to me.

 

Dragon Quest games are are high budget games.  They just focus their money on other things besides on tons of FMV cutscenes and paying lots of voice actors.  But don't confuse the production values of a Final Fantasy or MGS title with a game having a mediocre budget.  If you ever played Dragon Quest VIII, it was clearly one of the most detailed and polished games on the PS2.  And they didn't slouch on its budget, spending over 4 years on its development and definitely hitting the 'high' cost range.

Dragon Quest IX in comparison is a DS game that took 5 years to develop (pretty much unheard of for a DS or handheld game) and is just as massive as DQVIII.
