So L4D sold around a million on steam? Since the majority of pc game sales now come from dd and adding in all the other digital distributing websites which are minuscule compared to steam I would say L4D sold 2 million on pc's and thats being very very generous. It's probably closer to around 1.5 million.

Very good sales numbers but not 4 times the 360 L4D sales numbers which is what you would have led us to believe before.

no, they don't come. it's estimated to be 25% of the full market (source), although it's obvious that some games see more digital sales than others.

Crysis one of the biggest pc games of the last 3 years only sold a little above a million at retail. A valve game getting released on their personal digital distribution system is going to be far more skewed towards dd than retail compared to other pc games. There is no way in hell L4D sold 4 million at retail which is what your trying to imply. It is completely reasonable to assume based off the given data that total L4D retail sales are anywhere between 1.5 to 2 million. Especially after you factor in the average number of people online for L4D which is far far too low for a multiplayer centric game that sold 5 million copies according to you. I don't have the raw online figures right now but I'll look them up for you when I get out of class.

Crysis was also one of the most mediocre games in the last 3 years. At least pick games that didn't suck to prove your point....

Who said mediocrity has anything to do with sales? Crysis was one of the most hyped games on PC in recent memory and we all know hype is a much bigger contributing factor to sales than your personal opinion that it was mediocre, especially considering most reviewers liked it and thats where most people look for opinions before they buy a game.

@mudface

were arguing retail sales only, thats probably total sales. Still even if it sold 2 million at retail how does that speak towards L4D which is a multiplayer centric game and also a much less hyped game?

All I'm saying is that before shio and ssj12 would argue that PC games sell 5 times better than console games when all the data points to that being far from reality. Hell I remember a thread a while ago where ssj12 said the sales for L4D on 360 were crappy, so now that we have a little more data and it looks like both versions sold the same with the PC version very likely having sold a little less what does he have to say about those "crappy" sales?
