Yes. Since 2D Mario, 2D Metroid and early Pokémon games are my favourites, then shifting to handheld only would be fine.

I'm not serious about the online, I just hate it so much when games focus on it when I don't like it and have no friends willing to play Wii games (they all think it's a kiddy console).

And consoles becoming as complicated, feature-rich and unreliable as PCs is a bad trend.
