Crysis one of the biggest pc games of the last 3 years only sold a little above a million at retail. A valve game getting released on their personal digital distribution system is going to be far more skewed towards dd than retail compared to other pc games. There is no way in hell L4D sold 4 million at retail which is what your trying to imply. It is completely reasonable to assume based off the given data that total L4D retail sales are anywhere between 1.5 to 2 million. Especially after you factor in the average number of people online for L4D which is far far too low for a multiplayer centric game that sold 5 million copies according to you. I don't have the raw online figures right now but I'll look them up for you when I get out of class. |
nah, I don't think it sold 4 or 5 millions, but I don't think it sold only 1.5 million too, and Valve themselves said digital sales were just taking over retail last year, and I don't think the percentage is high. I also believe shio is too "conservative" regarding pre-orders and initial months, but I won't guess any numbers - it just seem too low for me having less than 200k pre-orders.
