I would say he made out fine.

He traded games, accesories, money and his old console for that which makes my point. 190gb bigger drive and 1 game vs 7 games, accesories and $50.

Still cheaper than buying a PS3 after trading in just the 7 games. ($350 PS3 with 250GB, just one controller, and NO game included)
