The J man has extensively played all God of War games and by far the first was his favourite out of the 3 , Kratos unknowingly kills his family because of the god he worked for and works his way even through hell to get his ultimate revenge and also try to forget the deed he had done......he was broken but eventually killed Ares and eventually takes his place as the god of war...but then it gets weird.

At the beginning of GOW 2 we are shown that Kratos has revived his spartan army and is attacking...wait for it....ATHENAS  CITY for absolutely no reason!!!....The god who (it could be argued) got him his position as the god of war. The god who warned him to stop going out of control or face the reprocussions was having her city destroyed by the person she helped though his journey........they zeus comes and rightfully kills Kratos (not before geniously taking away his powers as gods cant fight gods).........and then Kratos cheats death because of the titans blah blah blah.

What do you think of kratos ...do you still feel he has a purpose or do you believe that this is a position he put himself and deserves to die?

There you go...

As for whether Kratos is sympathetic. You could argue that Ares didn't completely manipulate Kratos, because he simply encouraged and fostered the warloving nature of the character. You could argue that Kratos never wanted to become so much of a killing machine that he would become inhuman, without family or friends (he only wanted what a traditional Greek warrior want, Glory and Honor).

Kratos definetly has the tragic flaw of not letting go and accepting his past. His grudges, regret, hatred just keeps piling up.

I think the "Bad End" for GoW will be that Kratos will get his revenge on everyone.... except for himself. He realizes that the one person he hated the most was himself, and that he has simply been rampaging around, trying to find his enemy, when it was there all along. Standing on the plummet of Mount Olympus, with the entire world burning below him, the being dedicated to nothing but war, plunges from Olympus to his death.

(Or he remains as the God of War. His eternal rage driving on the eternal cycle of revenge and war)

I think the "Good End" for GoW will be that Kratos realizes that he made a mistake, and nothing will ever change that. He gives up his hatred and rage, and the symbols of his regret and past (the ashes) and his nature of fighting (the chains connecting his weapons and body as one) fall off him. Seeing that her husband as finally changed and gave up war, she reunites... blah blah blah happy daisies.

So I think that it's not for "no reason" that Kratos is mad. He has a huge regret, and blames the gods and fates, blames Ares, and blames himself.

The Spartans gave him solace from that.
