I said PS3/HD's or the DS successor or even the DS itself would be possibilities. Also take into account that there was going to be a huge RPG fanbase on the PS3 after both FFXIII and FFvsXIII were released. Nintendo couldn't have taken the risk, since they don't have a huge RPG fanbase and DQX would have been the first game of that kind. Please, read carefully next time. |
At the time SE were delaying FFXIII left and right, games like ToV and SO4 weren't heading to ps3, and the ps3 was selling sub-10k a week in Japan. It is no surprise SE decided not to bet on ps3 at the time. I doubt there was any money involved there. The ps3 wasn't like it is today, selling >30k a week on the back of a price cut and remodel, and with a much stronger JRPG fanbase due to the releases or impending releases of ToV, SO, and FFXIII (not to mention the smaller stuff like Ar Tonelico III).
Though I wouldn't be surprised if SE went to both Nintendo and Sony, hinting that they still hadn't decided which console to make the game for in an attempt to get some free money.
