My story is a much more woeful affair. I purchased it as my first SNES game while I was living on a military base in Germany (I guess I was about 10 or so?). I had saved up a bunch of money so that I could own a game for my new system and so I purchased the Rocketeer. I hated it instantly, but I don't think we were allowed to return games at the BX. I managed to scrounge some money together to get a game that was actually good. My next purchase...Pitfighter for the SNES (also horrible). I almost quit buying SNES games at that point.

Ouch, that's unfortunate.

It's strange though.  I look at my SNES game collection and despite having almost 50 games, I can safely say that I like them all.  I judged games by the box art back then so by all rights I should have a lot more lemons in terms of games than I do.  Rocketeer is actually one of the maybe two games that I didn't enjoy playing.  It really is strange how that works.
