One reason I chose a PS3 over the XBOX 360 is because there is no subscription. I'm of the opinion that buying a $100 game that has online multiplayer as a selling point should only cost that initial $100. Paying extra means that the selling point is irrelevent.
As such I would not pay for a subscription based service. To me it's part of the cost of the console and part of the cost of the games.
