Directv is the largest Satellite based tv subscription provider here in the states with over 18 million customers. I think News Corp owns 51% of directv and that is owned by Murdock. So the 2 systems seem to be very similar and I don't think it would be really difficult to change the interface so that it works with Directv.
I have been a directv subscriber for a long time. I don't think there is a better alternative here in the states.
