Being an assassin is typically a one-person operation, which perhaps helps explain why Ubisoft has shied away from multiplayer in any of its Assassin’s Creed games up to this point. However, Assassin's Creed II lead producer Sebastien Puel recently told Total Video Games that introducing co-op or multiplayer into future AC titles “is something that does interest us.”

Sebastien went on to say, “With the Animus we have the potential to support any kind of new gameplay like that. It depends whether Ubisoft will be willing to go this way. I'm not saying yes or no, but we'll keep thinking about it."

While I still haven’t decided how I would feel about sharing my Assassin’s Creed experience with other players, I think it would kind of be priceless to see the following scene play out: You track and assassinate your target, jumping onto him from a ledge, and as you stand up, another assassin, who was just about to take out the guy himself, is standing next to you, prompting a conversation like this one:

Assassin 1: Oh hey…were you-?
Assassin 2: Yeah, I was kind of just going to…
Assassin 1: Oh man, because I wouldn’t have if I'd-
Assassin 2: No, it’s ok. I just-
Assassin 1: Because if I’d seen-
Assassin 2: Right. No, I know. I should have...I was kind of disguised there. I should have-
Assassin 1: I mean, he was right there, and I totally had it, so I just-
Assassin 2: Well, yeah. You had to. I mean, yeah, it was…Really, just forget it
Assassin 1: Are you sure? Because I just feel terrible and-
Assassin 2: Yeah. Really. No worries. I’ll just, uh, kill that guy over there. No biggie.

So what do you think about multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed?
