Lol alright I can see that this thread has switched gears to actual DUIs instead of its intended subject. One thing about this that has always bothered me is that there are many people out there who have driven drunk at least once in their life, yet are so quick to judge people who have gotten caught. I'm no saint, I know that, but I'm not some fucked up criminal who committed a crime against humanity either. I went to jail, payed the fines, and went to classes. It sucked but that's just the way it is. So to all of you who are so hellbent on calling me an "idiot" or saying that what I did was inexcusable, it was a MISTAKE. And if I was the only one in the car at the time I would not have even gotten the DUI in the first place. So please, shut the hell up and stop being so damn judgemental about my character.

I realize I'm only 20 and still very immature, but I'm not asking for sympathy here, just your opinions on parenting.

I'm sorry, but what were you expecting? You made a thread detailing 2 crimes you have committed (Drink driving and driving with a suspended licence) and also how you've disrespecting your parents rules whilst living in their house by throwing two parties that they clearly were not happy about. Then you complain about them taking your keys away and not letting you drive with a suspended licence, as though the £1,450 fine wasn't enough to let you know you can't drive with a suspended licence. Were you expecting positive replies from everyone?

Hell no, but I certainly wasn't expecting this mass amount of elitist jerks acting like they're better than me because of a mistake I made. I guess it was a mistake on my part to expect any sort of respectful answers from people as 'saintly' and 'divine' as yourselves. Give me a break. People love to point out others mistakes, but seldom, if ever, learn to work through their own.

Yes the DUI in itself was bad, but it is silly to sit there and judge me because I got popped for driving on a suspended license. All I was doing was driving, I wasn't putting anyone at higher risk of death than anyone else on the road. I didn't have anything illegal in the car, and the town that I live in in California makes it incredibly impractical to bike or use public transportation.

So you live in CA and not the UK as per your profile?

Then you just added another crime onto your resume - underage drinking.

I don't think it's 'elitist jerks'. It's more of like the common sense patrol. You goofed up, and you are acting irrational concerning the results of your stupidity. Sorry we're all being harsh on you, but it seems that your parents didn't take enough steps the first time you did this.

Everything about your story reaks of sheer stupidity. Let's go over this a few times in case you don't understand where we're making our case for beating you up at:

  1. You are 20 years old. In the United States of America, that is underage for drinking, which is 21 years of age. In the first place, you should not be drinking at all.  You should show some temperance and refuse to drink at your age, which is something that you wistfully have thrown away.
  2. You drove under a suspended license for nearly a year. Here's the deal about driving suspended (speaking as a former dispatcher for a police station): You are playing with fire when you drive suspended. Any officer behind you can and will request a check concerning your legality of driving privledges when he feels there may be a violation. If there is an issue such as a suspended license, it will show up very prominently, giving the officer a great reason to pull you over.
  3. You threw not one but two parties against your parents wishes. Great way to be an A+ son there.
  4. You complain about your parents trying to ensure you don't get busted again for driving suspended. If I was still a dispatcher, it wouldn't take me more than a few seconds to advise a cop to pull you over pretty quickly, as your rap sheet for DUI/SUS would iluminate your record like a Christmas tree.

That is why we're acting jerky - it's woefully obvious that you've done that and more by putting your family through hell.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
