I have to admit, this made me laugh. 
You make it sound much more interesting than an Empire conquering another one. Instead, a band of theives, conquered an Empire. Quite impressive.
Also I want to correct you on your statement. The "wiped out" finished thier calendar far before Spain was even a unified country. They were actually dwindled into City-States whent he Spanish arrived. I think the civilization you are looking for are the "Aztecs".
