Given this is about the memory stick I'll mention that my brother was burgled and had a digital camera and digital video camera stolen. He went to do his shopping courtesy of the insurance company and eventually rejected buying Sony because of the stupid memory stick thing, even though the Sony equipment was in the right price bracket and what he got was slightly lesser quality than the Sony product. That's ~$2000 (NZD) revenue Sony has missed out on because of their continued support for their own memory format. Had Sony supported SD memory cards my brother would have got the Sony cameras for sure.

Sony should have ditched their attempt to introduce a new memory card standard a long time ago. It is inevitable that storage media pretty much always collapses down to a single standard eventually and Sony isn't big enough in this area to eliminate SD, which every other electronics company is supporting.

They lost with Betamax, they won with Blu-ray, take your lumps with memory stick. You can't win 'em all.
