That's one hell of an opinion you have there.
It's wrong in every possible way, mind you, but I applaud you for being willing to wave it in public. I certainly wouldn't have the courage required to out myself like this.

He's not wrong about most of the guys signing the petition being pirates. I'd wager the grand majority of those signing would not have purchased the copy at retail anyway. As a primarily PC gamer, I play lots of games on custom servers, and anytime someone in our group says something like "hey lets play on " a couple of guys say they can't, their copy isn't legal. It's a rampant issue, and it's the pirates fault, not the company, that the company takes away these options. If there was no piracy(or at least less), you can bet more companies would be leaving in the ability to run custom servers.

I wasn't referring to that portion of his post, I was referring to the part about modders and modding. It betrays an appalling ignorance.
Although I do now take issue with that assertion. It's painting with far too broad a brush. Lots of legitimate players, including the most devoted and "hardcore" fans of PC games, often create their own servers just to maximize their enjoyment of the game, and to form specific, close-knit communities. This behavior elongates the title's lifespan. I won't dispute that many pirates are out there, and that this will harm them specifically, but it will also damage legitimate consumers. It's throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I'm not questioning that lots of legitimate players enjoy the personal servers/modding capabilities. I'm just saying that the majority who take advantage of it are pirates. It's not throwing the baby out with the bath water - it's unfortunately costing a vocal minority of paying users who would like these features, to prevent te vast majority of vocal complainers who wouldn't be buying the game at all. 100,000 people signed this petition to complain, but I can guarantee you that 75,000 of them have no intention of forking over money for the game with or without the server support.

Surely moving the the game to Steam is enough to stop the vast majority of online pirates. You have to log on to steam to play.
Saying that 75% of those against this are pirates is also quite the exaggeration. I suspect all those involved in renting out dedicated servers are very bothered, along with those who rent the servers from them. Then there's everyone in every PC FPS clan who was looking forward to the game, I also know forums with their own dedicated servers for certain FPS games, even magazine publications and all of the members who use their servers.
