Whatever they charged as long as it wasn't above $15 month and provided excellent service. I grew up on pay-to-play games like MajorMud, Evercrack, etc... Blizzard's battle.net seriously rocked and I was glad that it is free, but for the server issues and lack of regulations I gladly would have paid monies. PSN free rocks, but how much of its development/maintenance costs are detracting from development for good new games or fresh IP's? Cable TV and internet already charge out the ass, what's a few $$ more? Not a problem in my book at all.
