It's called money
Making it is good, losing it is bad.
On games MS have lost 7 or so billion in 6 years, Sony have lost 2 or so billion over the last year, and Nintendo is now the second most highly valued company in Japan. Even behemoths like Sony and MS have to listen to common sense eventually.
