@ domicinator, the PSN browser is buggy at best, using facebook and Twitter is a royal pain from what I hear. on XBL they are dedicated apps. So yes, Ican use them as an argument.I already said that crossgame chat was coming to PSN and it was a non issue, I was suprised that this guy was even bothering to bring it up. As long as people have to pay a mere pittance to play with their friends online, I think they will. I am ok with paying $38.99 a year so I can play Halo 3 online with my friends, that right there is worth it. Would I like it to be free, absolutely, but as long as I must pay for it, I will gladly do so. |
I wouldn't say buggy. I check my Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc. on PS3 all the time. Is it cumbersome? If you're going to actually try to type anything to anyone on the controller, that's a resounding YES!!! (Same problem on the Xbox 360) However, you can plug a standard keyboard into the PS3, which is also worth mentioning as an enhancement to the free PSN service. As far as I know the Xbox does not allow you to do this. I have never tried it on either, but I know for a fact that it works on PS3.
As far as these items being dedicated apps on Xbox 360, yes you're right. And that's cool. But is it any more or less cool than checking the real Facebook and Twitter? Hell, I think the easiest way to do it is just bookmark both those sites on your phone, and that's the way I access them both the most.
Again--not saying Xbox Live isn't a great service. I'm just saying that it was already getting hard to justify the cost, and the upgrades they're coming out with in the near future don't seem to warrant a price hike. The one thing I can say is that they're finally going to have 1080p video, which I believe is something PSN has always had. (I will mention that the PS3 has lots of FREE 1080p content, while Xbox Live nickel and dimes you for just about everything aside from Inside Xbox and Major's Minute, none of which are in HD.)
