PS3 gamers are more hardcore, this is why they are overpresented on internet gaming forums. And this hardcoreness explains why they are so passionate about seeing their console win.
Wii gamers on average are definitely the most casual. They don't care about pissfests. They don't care that their console is SD. They have no reason to obsess over exclusivity. etc. They just think, "oh these games are fun." They're also the least likely to own other consoles (source: NPD) even though the Wii has less AAAs and what not. This audience clearly doesn't care at all about that type of stuff.
The 360 user base has a significant number of casual gamers. And when I mean casual, I don't mean Wii-Fit playing gamers. I mean everyday guys (mainly guys anyway) you see in high school, college, work, etc. who just want to play their Madden, NBA2K, CoD, Halo, Gears, GTA, etc. with their friends on live. In North America, if you are an average everyday male, most of your friends are going to have a 360 so it's seen as a natural thing to do for them to get a 360 if they want to play with their friends. If you go, "Killzone 2! Resistance! MGS4! Uncharted 2!", they're really not going to give a damn. To them, they think, "hey playing Halo, CoD and Madden with my friends is awesome. I don't know what you're going on about with this killzone thing man." Basically so as long as they have their EA Sports, 2K Sports and shooter fix (all over possible with the big multi-plat overlap) and can play these games with their friends, they don't care. They, the casual 360 gamer, don't see any reason to passionately defend "their console".
But PS3 owners, they're different on average. Because chances are if you own a PS3, you didn't just buy it for sports and shooters. Chances are you probably like Sony's first-party lineup a lot and MGS4. These type of gamers are not going to be so casual. They care more about the exclusives. And I've noticed throughout the years that there are plenty of people on the internet, particularly internet gaming forums, with a heavy interest in Japanese popular culture. Obviously that kind of fanbase is going to favor the PS3 more times than not.
