Sometimes I've had the sound get all weird on me for a while before it goes back to normal. This happens every once in a while in the game's multiplayer. In Dice's Frostbite engine (Bad Company, 1943), however, the sound cuts out all the time.
Anyway, I'd check on the audio settings of your PS3 and let it automatically select which audio boxes to check/uncheck.
